Anna Mar
Anna Mar is an abstract artist born in Poland and living in Sooke, British Columbia.
Anna’s creative journey started in 2013. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in Digital Media Design from the University of the Arts London UK and began career as a graphic designer and video editor. She has long worked with various media, combining her passion for design with the power of storytelling. As a multifaceted artist she explored graphic design, illustration, animation, web design, video design and art direction.
After years of thinking about painting, Anna left a digital art world and picked up a brush. She quickly discovered abstract art — a pure form of expression and a journey of self discovery. Anna believes that art reflects what is happening in our lives. It allows for an open statement and a conversation without words. Abstract art is an individual, unique form of expression. Through her art, Anna finds a connection with herself. Anna’s art is strongly influenced by nature and emotions. She spends a lot of time outdoors, immersing herself in her surroundings and experiencing creation in its purest form. She looks at nature through the prism of our existence and our (co)existence with nature is an integral element of her art.
Her work is very organic. It shares the essence and beauty of the natural form and focuses our attention on the unnoticed. It is an expression of discovery, gratitude and fulfillment. Each individual artwork tells a story, shares emotions, and reveals a journey.
As an artist I immerse myself in beauty and the force of nature. My paintings explore the presence and influence of the natural world in our lives, evoke emotions and help me to unfold a path of self exploration.
While I work, layers of questions and answers are being revealed. For me, creative work is like entering another dimension. Reaching what is unreachable. Expressing what is impossible to describe. Meanings convert into a flow of energy that finds a place in my work/onto canvas. You can’t see it, but you know how it makes you feel. It sinks you in, it transforms you.
My art is a form of visual storytelling, a way of expressing myself and sharing my inner world. It is about exploration, discovery and surprise. Learning how to let go, follow instincts and release the controlled mindset. Through my art, I invite everyone on an individual journey to reflect on emotions and values. I hope that my work will connect with the viewer, inspire, and help to find what they are searching for themselves.
Currently I mainly focus on painting, however I do like to experiment with different media. I like to learn, try new things and listen to what the work is expecting from me. This process is always mutual. I am constantly being astonished by work created by other artists. I believe that for an artist the possibilities are endless.
