Penny is a self-taught, casual artist who paints what she sees around her and scenes from various vacations abroad. She was born and raised in Victoria BC, although she has lived in both Vancouver and California. 45 years ago she returned to Vancouver Island and hs lived in rural Metchosin ever since.
StatementI am a self taught, casual artist. Although I have enjoyed drawing and painting at various times over my lifetime, it has only been in the last few years, since I entered my seventies, that I have taken it up more seriously. Deciding to try something new, although I had used watercolour, graphite and acrylics in the past, I decided to try pastel and it has been quite a learning curve! With the help of on-line videos and other artists on art blogs, I have reached a level of proficiency I feel I can be proud of and I love the colour and texture of the medium. Although my work is realistic, I hope the viewer feels the mood of the piece as well as seeing beauty.
