Inspiration:
Mom said my eyes were hers - others said they were like Dad’s. Uncle declared my nose a replica of Auntie’s. I dreamt of a mouth with lips full like my cousin’s. When one’s gene pool combines unequal parts from several continents, who you resemble is a mixed bag.
Is there a universal or collective consciousness? Are we born with some ancestor memories as well as their features? Am I all of them?
Materials and Process:
Juxtaposed & unmatched alabasters and steatite, carved into eyes, nose, & mouth signifying aspects of a human visage.
