Adrian Balzer is a self taught artist who found painting a little later in life. After a two decade long love affair with photography he picked up a paint brush at the age of 38. After much trial and error he turned to YouTube for an education. There he found Nicolas Uribe’s channel “Our Painted Lives” which had a dramatic affect on his learning curve. He then took a workshop from fellow British Columbia Islander Melissa Williamson and later two workshops from Nicolas Uribe. He found these workshops invaluable to his growth as a painter, artist, and human being. Adrian lives in Victoria, BC. He is a full time bus driver, full time dog dad to two rambunctious German Shepherds, husband to Sarah since 2005 and squeezes in some painting wherever and whenever he can.
StatementIn our current western culture we are often told to believe in ourselves and make our own way. Surrendering to a higher power is deemed by many as foolish and uneducated. This painting is a declaration that my faith is my rock, and that letting by letting go of control I found true freedom; freedom that brought me out of the depths of despair and into the light.
